Summary: The purpose of this paper is to provide definitions for, and proofs of, the asymptotic formulas given by [{\it A. R. Edmonds}, Angular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics, Princeton (1957; Zbl 0079.42204), reprint (1996; Zbl 0860.00016)], which relate the $3j$ and $6j$ symbols to rotation matrices.
