Summary: [The full version appears in the Proceedings of the Colloquium on ``New problems in the general theory of fields and particles'', Paris-La Sorbonne, July 25-28, 1994.] \par We review some recent results and work in progress on the quantum structure of spacetime of scales comparable with the Planck length; the models discussed here are operationally motivated by the limitations in the accuracy of localization of events in spacetime imposed by the interplay between quantum mechanics and classical general relativity.
