This issue is an unaltered photoreprint of the 6-th edition of this classic, which appeared in 1932 and has often been available in hardback ever since. The new nine-page foreword is sparing on biography, but nicely indicates the general historical settings within which Lamb introduced and developed his book from its first appearance in 1879. Unavailable are the additions made by R. von Mises to the second German translation (1931; see Zbl 0001.36304) of the original fifth (1924) edition.
