(German) Zbl 0734.34016 Demonstr. Math. 23, No. 3, 753-773 (1990). A countable system of linear differential equations with a band structure is discussed, arising from population dynamics in biology. A uniqueness theorem for the constant coefficient case is given and the nonnegative solution is characterized via an extremality property. For the case of nonconstant coefficients, an existence theorem is given.
