The author treats the analysis of various kinds of controllability for linear dynamical systems. Several controllability conditions for continuous-time finite-dimensional systems, discrete-time finite- dimensional systems, and continuous-time infinite-dimensional systems are presented. Furthermore, some controllability criteria for dynamical systems with delays in the state variables and in the control are considered. Short biographical notes refer to controllability of nonlinear systems. The presentation is clear and well structured, a valuable discussion of the references is found at the end of each chapter. The list of references is quite extensive; however, the majority of the references considered dates back to the years before 1985, which reveals that a number of recent results, e.g. for infinite-dimensional systems, is not covered.
