An introduction to numerical analysis. 2nd ed. (English) Zbl 0718.65001

New York: John Wiley & Sons, Inc. xvi, 693 p. $ 58.95 (1989).
[For the first edition (1978) see Zbl 0402.65001).]
The main organization of this second edition is essentially the same as the previous one, with the addition of several new sections. All sections have been rewritten, sometimes quite extensively, and in some instances topics have been deleted. In addition, introductions to a number of new topics have been included: for example, trigonometric interpolation and the FFT (Section 3.8), numerical differentiation (Section 5.7), the method of lines (Section 6.9), boundary value problems (Section 6.11), the conjugate gradient method (Section 8.9), and the least squares solutions of systems of linear equations (Section 9.7). An appendix on mathematical software is also included which describes some of the better known software packages. The bibliography for each chapter has been updated to reflect the current textbooks and research literature.
