Rosenberg, Jonathan; Weinberger, Samuel
Higher G-indices and applications.
(English)
[J] Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 21, No. 4, 479-495 (1988). ISSN 0012-9593

Suppose a compact Lie group G acts on a closed, connected, smooth manifold M in such a way that $\pi\sb 1(M)\to \pi\sb 1(M/G)$ splits. For a G-invariant elliptic operator D on M the higher G-index is defined and methods for computing it are derived. Applications when D is the Dirac operator on a spin manifold or the signature operator on an oriented manifold are given.
