Fefferman, R. Fourier analysis in several parameters. (English) Zbl 0641.42018 Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 2, No. 1-2, 89-98 (1986). The role played by the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator in the study of classical singular integrals is well known. In higher dimensions, the Hardy-Littlewood operator no longer suffices to control the singular operators at hand. In this paper, which is in the nature of a survey article, the author considers the more complicated maximal functions which are required to deal with the singular integrals in question.
