The author studies a stationary queueing system where the server undergoes blocking periods. During such a period service is interrupted and resumed afterwards. The quite general point process setup of the paper allows only implicit results such as defining equations for waiting times, existence of stationary solutions, and relations between time- and customer-stationary quantities. \par The main result is a decomposition of the virtual waiting time which is related to a decomposition given by {\it J. A. Hooke} [Operations Res. 20, 373-380 (1972; Zbl 0239.60089)] for priority queues.
