(From author's introduction.) We are concerned with the motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a three-dimensional domain that is infinite in the horizontal direction and bounded on top by a free surface and below by a fixed bottom. We assume that the motion of the fluid is governed by the Navier-Stokes equations, with the conditions of no-slip at the lower boundary and continuity of the pressure and surface tension at the upper boundary.
