An \(\Omega\)-estimate for the lattice rest of a convex planar domain. (English) Zbl 0582.10033

Ist \({\mathcal D}\) ein kompaktes und konvexes Gebiet, das den Nullpunkt enthält, so zähle A(t) die Anzahl der Punkte aus \({\mathbb{Z}}^ 2\), die im ”aufgeblasenen” Gebiet \(\{(x,y)| \quad (x/\sqrt{t},y/\sqrt{t})\in {\mathcal D}\}\) liegen. Verf. beweist unter der Voraussetzung, daß der Rand aus \(C^{\infty}\) ist und durchwegs endliche, nicht-verschwindende Krümmung besitzt \[ A(t)=i({\mathcal D}) t + \Omega_-(t^{1/4} \log^{1/4} t) \] (i(\({\mathcal D}):\) Inhalt von \({\mathcal D})\) und verallgemeinert damit ein im Falle des Kreises seit Hardy (1916) bekanntes Resultat. Anmerkungen: 1) Das Hardysche Resultat konnte erst 1981 geringfügig verbessert werden [J. L. Hafner, Invent. Math. 63, 181-186 (1981; Zbl 0458.10031)]; 2) die Situation ändert sich wesentlich, wenn die Bedingung des Nicht-Verschwindens der Krümmung fallen gelassen wird [Verf., Indagationes Math. 46, 209-223 (1984; Zbl 0519.10041)].
