F. Rapoport has studied the jet stream around an elastic shell of small curvature [Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Mekh. Zhidk. Gaza 1977, No.2, 24-32 (1977; Zbl 0378.76039)]. Continuing these investigations now the plane symmetric potential flow without separation around a cylindrical shell of circular cross-section by an ideal incompressible liquid is investigated. By means of methods of the theory of functions of a complex variable the problem considered is reduced to the solution of a nonlinear operator equation. Criteria for the unique solvability of this operator equation are proved and an effective algorithm for the approximate calculation of the solution is constructed.
