Maurin, M.; Touboul, E.
Codage optimal et sur-optimal sur un tableau invariant.
(French)
[J] Math. Sci. Hum. 85, 19-55 (1984). ISSN 0987-6936

Summary: Optimal scaling is a way to get real values for ordinal (and qualitative) scales. When applied on a stimulus-response matrix, the result is depending upon the stimulus marginal distribution, a "truly local" distribution which may change from an experiment to another. So we resolve the basic data into a local and an invariant component. Two ways are proposed to get off the local influence, the overoptimal scaling is the name of the most sophisticated one.
