The q-analogue of Stirling's formula. (English)

A version of Stirling's formula for the q-gamma function is given which is uniform in q for q close to 1, and reduces to Stirling's formula when $q=1$. This can be used to compute $\prod\sp{\infty}\sb{n=0}(1-aq\sp n)$ when $0<q<1$ and q is close to 1.
