Laws of trigonometry in symmetric spaces.
(English)
[A] Berrick, A. J. (ed.) et al., Geometry from the Pacific Rim. Proceedings of the Pacific Rim geometry conference, National University of Singapore, Republic of Singapore, December 12--17, 1994. New York, NY: Walter de Gruyter. 23-36 (1997). ISBN 3-11-014792-0/hbk

The laws of trigonometry can be interpreted as relations between metric quantities of a given triangle which are invariant under the group of isometries. In the paper under review, the work of E. Leuzinger on trigonometry in noncompact symmetric spaces is reformulated and an alternative method is outlined using invariants of the isotropy group representation. The method is applied to compact and noncompact symmetric spaces.
