Laws of trigonometry on SU(3). (English)

The author's main theorem extends the results of {\it W. Y. Hsiang} [Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 7, No.1, 29-45 (1989; see the preceding review)] on the trigonometry of triangles to a case of a symmetric space of rank 2, namely SU(3). The situation is more complicated, in particular the lengths do no more suffice as the invariants of the sides. As a result, there are 10 laws of trigonometry instead of 5 in the nonreal rank 1 geometries. The paper includes also several historical comments on the rank 1 case.
