Cohen, A. Clifford Truncated and censored samples. Theory and applications. (English) Zbl 0742.62027 Statistics: Textbooks and Monographs. 119. New York etc.: Marcel Dekker, Inc.. xiv, 312 p. (1991). This is a monograph on the efficient estimation of distribution parameters for truncated and censored samples. Maximum likelihood, moment, and modified estimators are used throughout the monograph. Using the likelihood function for truncated and censored samples, the author derives estimators in various distributions. The book begins with a brief introduction about truncated and censored samples in Chapter 1. Chapters 2 and 3 treat normal distributions, and linear estimators are given in Chapter 4. Weibull, lognormal, inverse Gaussian and gamma, exponential and extreme value distributions are respectively treated in Chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8. Rayleigh, Pareto, and Pearson distributions appear in Chapters 9, 10 and 11. Chapter 12 is devoted to bivariate and multivariate normal distributions, while Chapter 13 includes some basic discrete distributions. Truncated attribute acceptance sampling and some related topics are discussed in the closing Chapter 14.This is not a very stimulating book and lacks unified treatment of the subject. Although deficient in many ways, this monograph should be a good reference source and a handbook for practitioners of statistical estimation from incomplete data. Reviewer: Rasul A.
