Special functions and pathways for problems in astrophysics: an essay in honor of A. M. Mathai. (English) Zbl 1219.85001

The paper under review is an interesting essay in honour of an eminent experienced mathematical scientist with outstanding achievements to his credit in many facets of mathematical sciences. It is well brought out and ought to inspire the upcoming generations of scholars who may have something to do with mathematics, statistics and problems of significance for the society at large.
The seven sections are titled as: Biographical notes of Prof. A. M. Mathai, Astrophysical thermo-nuclear functions; Solar structure in terms of Gauss hypergeometric function; The fractional kinetic equations; Generalized measure of entropy, The Mathai pathways and Tsallis statistics; Gravitational instability in multi-component cosmological medium; Developing basic space science world wide. References are provided not in usual terms but put in the form of “further reading”, which would certainly help the curious minds to explore further into useful research areas.
On the whole, we must agree that the Professor whose works are highlighted here does deserve full satisfaction, since his own contributions do find wide appreciation and applications in various areas of immense value.
