Maximum entropy approach in a traffic stream.
(English)
[J] Appl. Math. Comput. 195, No. 1, 61-65 (2008). ISSN 0096-3003

Summary: The flow, concentration and speed of a traffic system are meaningful only as averages. The kinds of averages to be employed vary. In some instances, it is correct to use arithmetic averages, in some harmonic averages and in still others, only space or time averages are suitable. The relationship between the flow of traffic of vehicles and the concentration of vehicles is a result of the interaction, which occurs between vehicles. This paper focus on the maximization of the flow rate at a given continuous traffic stream using the entropy maximization technique. Finally, a numerical example is provided in support of our technique.
