Survey on the state of systems and control. (English) Zbl 1177.93001

From the introduction: During 1994, 41 experts in control systems theory were asked to give brief answers to the following three questions:
1. On what problems in control systems theory have you been working during the last five years?
2. What do you see as the major open problems in control systems theory?
3. What do you think are the major challenges that face the control engineering community in the next few years?
Here the authors publish the 27 answers that they received, preceded by their description of the major trends that emerge from the answers to the two last questions.
