Brechenmacher, Frédéric The 1874 controversy between Camille Jordan and Leopold Kronecker. (La controverse de 1874 entre Camille Jordan et Leopold Kronecker.) (French) Zbl 1157.01002 Rev. Hist. Math. 13, No. 2, 187-257 (2007). The paper is devoted to the quarrel between Camille Jordan and Leopold Kronecker that took place in 1874 and concerned the organization of the theory of bilinear forms. It hinged on two theorems due independently to Jordan and Weierstrass (they would be considered today as equivalent). The controversy was sparked by the fact that those theorems have been differently perceived. The study is an interesting contribution to the history of linear algebra.
