The contents of this successful book and its target audience have been described in the reviews of the first and second edition [Springer Verlag (1994; Zbl 0839.46001), (1999; Zbl 0938.46001)]. The new edition has been expanded at many places, some of the material has been reorganised, and there are several new sections, for example on Hilbert spaces, subgradients, locally compact metrisable spaces and exposed points of convex sets.
