Mathematical challenges in spatial ecology. (English) Zbl 1128.92328

Summary: Ever since the 1798 essay of Thomas Malthus, the study of how populations interact with the environment has involved mathematical considerations. The author surveys current progress and problems in understanding the role of space in mathematical models of population.
