New trends in rock mechanics.
(English)
[J] Int. Appl. Mech. 38, No. 1, 1-22 (2002) and Prikl. Mekh., Kiev 38, No. 1, 5-34 (2002). ISSN 0032-8243

Summary: The author presents new results obtained in rock mechanics and some applications. First of all it is shown how an elastic/viscoplastic disconnected constitutive equation can be compiled for rock-like materials or particulate materials. The concept of compressibility/dilatancy boundary is fundamental in formulating the constitutive equations of the kind. Further damage is discussed together with the energy of microcracking. Examples are given to show the possibility of predicting around the undergr ound cavities the regions of rock dilatancy or compressibility, the regions and time of short- or long-term failure, the amount of rock involved successively in the damage evolution, etc.
