Pavličić, Dubravka M. Normalisation effects the results of MADM methods. (English) Zbl 1074.91510 Yugosl. J. Oper. Res. 11, No. 2, 251-265 (2001). The author investigates effects of the normalisation procedure (simple, linear, vector) on the results of the Multiple Attribute Decision Making methods (Simple Additive Weights, TOPSIS, ELECTRE) by fixed attribute weights. He constructs examples to show that, in the case of simple and vector normalisations, the result could depend on the measurement units used for quantitative attributes that are measurable by interval scales, and the type of Likert scale used for measuring qualitative attributes.
