Two-dimensional models for geometrically nonlinear thin piezoelectric shells. (English) Zbl 1045.74034

The asymptotic analysis is applied to thin piezoelectric shells in the framework of geometrically exact formulation. As a result, two-dimensional membrane and flexural models are formally obtained written on the middle surface of the shell. It is shown that the coupling between limit displacement field and limit electric potential, inherent to piezoelectricity, appears in the membrane model but not in the flexural model. Using membrane and flexural effects, the authors suggest a new full model for piezoelectric shells.
