Huang, Feimin; Matsumura, Akitaka; Shi, Xiaoding A gas-solid free boundary problem for a compressible viscous gas. (English) Zbl 1035.35070 SIAM J. Math. Anal. 34, No. 6, 1331-1355 (2003). A one-dimensional free-boundary problem is formulated to describe a phase transition of solid into compressible viscous gas with a prescribed density jump at the phase transition line. Initial data are found to permit global existence of solutions which are close to a combination of traveling and rarefaction waves.
