On the basis of the definition of intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS; see Zbl 0631.03040, Zbl 0939.03057)) and soft set [see D. Molodtsov, “Soft set theory – first results”, Comput. Math. Appl. 37, 19-31 (1999; Zbl 0936.03049)] the concept of intuitionistic fuzzy soft set (IFSS) is introduced as follows: Let \(U\) be an initial universe set and \(E\) be a set of parameters. Let \(P(U)\) denote the set of all IFSs on \(U\). Let \(A\subset E\). A pair \((F,A)\) is called an IFSS over \(U\), where \(F:A\to P(U)\). Some of the basic operations over the IFSSs are given and their properties are discussed and illustrated by suitable examples. An application of the IFSS in a decision making problem is described.
