The authors discuss the development of a general anisotropic semi-implicit scheme for MHD problems when the geometry does not allow the use of direct methods, due to a large number of filling coefficients in the matrix profile. The choice of a good preconditioner appears essential to guarantee a fast convergence of iterative methods, especially in the case of nonsymmetric linear systems. The scheme presented here enables the use of a large time step as well as provides a high spatial resolution.
