Analytical design of stable continuous-time generalised predictive control. (English) Zbl 0926.93028

An explicit analytical continuous-time generalized predictive control (ACGPC) design procedure for SISO systems is outlined. The scalar linear plant is represented by two conjoint rational transfer functions given in operational form and describing the controlled part and the disturbed part respectively. Two design paths based on the prediction of the future output and on the future filtered output are developed. All the necessary emulation procedures, the ACGPC design algorithms, and the analysis of the resulting closed-loop system are performed in both prediction cases. Explicit formulae for characteristic polynomials are catalogued, they can serve as a collection of closed-loop prototype characteristics for the rationalization of the ACGPC design. The proposed ACGPC procedure assures both the stability and the nominal performance requirements. It provides also the means for the discussion of the issues of robust stability and robust performance.
