On the solvability of homogeneous left-invariant differential operators on the Heisenberg group. (English) Zbl 0887.43004

Studiert wird die Frage der lokalen Auflösbarkeit von Operatoren folgenden Typs: Sei \(X_1, \dots\), \(X_n\), \(Y_1, \dots, Y_n\), \(T\) die Standard-Basis der Lie-Algebra der Heisenberg-Gruppe \(H_n\) mit den nicht-verschwindenden Kommutatoren \([X_j,Y_j] =-4T\). Für eine symmetrische Matrix \(S\in\text{Sp} (n,\mathbb{C})\) mit \(\text{Re} S\geq 0\) und für \(\alpha \in\mathbb{C}\) betrachtet man den folgenden homogenen linksinvarianten Differentialoperator zweiter Ordnung auf \(H_n\): \[ \square_{S,\alpha} =-{1 \over 4} (X_1, \dots, X_n, Y_1, \dots,Y_n) S^t(X_1, \dots, X_n,Y_1, \dots, Y_n)+ i\alpha T. \] In der Arbeit [J. Reine Angew. Math. 464, 67-96 (1995; Zbl 0826.43004)] hatten F. De Mari, M. M. Peloso und F. Ricci gezeigt, daß der Operator \(\square_{S,\alpha}\) im Fall \(\text{Re} S>0\) genau dann auflösbar ist, wenn \(\alpha\neq \pm(n +2k)\), \(k\in \mathbb{N}\). Für ausgeartete Matrizen \(S\) mit \(\text{Re} S\geq 0\) und für \(\alpha= \pm(n+2k)\), \(k\in \mathbb{N}\), war die Frage der Auflösbarkeit von \(\square_{S, \alpha}\) offen geblieben.
Diese Frage wird nun in der vorliegenden Arbeit beantwortet: Es wird ein notwendiges und hinreichendes Kriterium für die Auflösbarkeit von \(\square_{S, \alpha}\) angegeben. Für den negativen Teil des Resultates (i.e. für die Notwendigkeit des Kriteriums) wird ein Auflösbarkeitskriterium von L. Corwin und L. P. Rothschild [Acta Math. 147, 265-288 (1981; Zbl 0486.22006)] verwendet.
Sei \(Z:= X-iY\) der (nichtauflösbare) Lewy-Operator auf \(H_1\). Aus dem Resultat ergibt sich ein interessantes Phänomen: Der Operator \(YZ= i \square_{S,-1}\) ist auflösbar (die Autoren geben sogar eine Fundamentallösung an), während seine Transponierte \(ZY\) selbstverständlich nicht auflösbar ist.
