Zimmermann Huisgen, Birge The finitistic dimension conjectures – a tale of 3.5 decades. (English) Zbl 0862.16004 Facchini, Alberto (ed.) et al., Abelian groups and modules. Proceedings of the Padova conference, Padova, Italy, June 23-July 1, 1994. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers. Math. Appl., Dordr. 343, 501-517 (1995). After some remarks on the origins of homological algebra, the author reviews the history of several homological conjectures. The Finistic Dimension Conjectures published by H. Bass [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 95, 466-488 (1960; Zbl 0094.02201)] as well as their connections with other problems concerning the homology structure theory of finite dimensional algebras and classical orders, from a chronological and methodological point of view, are presented. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0830.00031].
