Cowsar, Lawrence C.; Dupont, Todd F.; Wheeler, Mary F. A priori estimates for mixed finite element approximations of second-order hyperbolic equations with absorbing boundary conditions. (English) Zbl 0859.65097 SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 33, No. 2, 492-504 (1996). Hyperbolic equations with uniformly elliptic spatial operators and absorbing boundary conditions are considered. Using some assumptions concerning the mixed finite element space, the discretizations of a weak form of the governing equations are analyzed. A priori estimates are derived for the cases of the continuous-time, explicit and implicit forms of the finite element method.
