Chilali, Mahmoud; Gahinet, Pascal \(H_ \infty\) design with pole placement constraints: An LMI approach. (English) Zbl 0857.93048 IEEE Trans. Autom. Control 41, No. 3, 358-367 (1996). The requirement that the closed-loop poles, in \(H_\infty\) synthesis, lie in some prescribed rather general “stability region” (convex, symmetric relative to the real axis), in the left half of the complex plane, is characterized by feasibility of a linear matrix system involving positive and negative definite matrices.
