Valeyre, Antoine Forms and properties of inequality indexes between proportions. (Formes et propriétés des indices d’inégalité entre proportions.) (French) Zbl 0847.62085 Math. Inf. Sci. Hum. 132, 13-37 (1995). Summary: This article deals with the indexes which allow to compare the inequalities of proportions between two classes. After examining the properties which characterize the definition of inequality indexes between two proportions, it analyzes some other properties like coherence or homogeneity whose incompatibility is proved. It is concerned with different kinds of inequality indexes which are built on measures, distances, statistical measures of dispersion, Atkinson’s index and Gini’s coefficient. It studies the forms and the properties of these indexes and it shows the relationships between them. Finally it deals with the qualitative comparisons of inequalities based on Gini’s concentration functions.
