The modeling of piezoceramic patch interactions with shells, plates, and beams. (English) Zbl 0832.73061

The authors present general models for describing the dynamics of structures – shells, plates or beams – to which piezoceramic patches (like sensors or actuators) are bounded. The presence of such patches and the voltages applied to them generate a system of forces and moments that have to be taken into account in the fundamental equations of elasticity. These additional contributions are carefully investigated in both the strong and weak form of the equations of motion. This provides models which can be used in a variety of applications, including numerical simulation. The authors also point out the possibility of extending their models to the case of multiple patch pairs and more complex geometries.
