Summary: Applications of the fractional calculus to the form $$(z-a)(z-b) \varphi\sb 2 + (C+Dz) \varphi\sb 1 + E \varphi = f \quad (z \ne a,\ z \ne b)$$ and the partial differential equation $${\partial\sp 2 \mu \over \partial z\sp 2} (z-a)(z-b) + (C+Dz) {\partial \mu \over \partial z} + \delta \cdot \mu (z,t) = A{\partial\sp 2 \mu \over \partial t\sp 2} + B{\partial \mu \over \partial t} \quad (z \ne a,\ z \ne b)$$ are discussed.
