Existence theorems for certain classes of singular boundary value problems.

Using the method of a priori estimates and the nonlinear alternative of Leray-Schauder, the author proves some existence results for the nonlinear singular second order two-point BVP of the form $(1/p)$ $(py')'=f(t,y)/ \psi(t)$, $0<t<b$ with $y$ satisfying appropriate boundary conditions. Applications to Thomas-Fermi, singular Emden-Fowler and other special equations are given.
