This paper is a pedagogical introduction to a number of generalizations of ordinary tensors obtained by replacing the group GL(n) by an infinite- dimensional group, viz. the group of diffeomorphisms of a neighbourhood of the origin of \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) up to jet equivalence. The calculational usefulness of the new objects is not clear as there exists no developed representation theory for the latter group.
