Hughston, L.P.; Shaw, W.T.
Constraint-free analysis of relativistic strings.
(English)
[J] Classical Quantum Gravity 5, No.3, L69-L72 (1988). ISSN 0264-9381; ISSN 1361-6382/e

Solutions of the equations of motion for classical relativistic strings in Minkowski space-time are presented in a manifestly covariant form. Constraints are eliminated while Lorentz covariance is retained at each stage. The open string solution is determined by a single real null curve and the closed string solution requires two real null curves. In both cases, a spinor method is used to express a null curve, that satisfies the suitable periodicity conditions, in terms of arbitrary functions.
