An improved estimate on the distribution mod 1 of powers of real matrices. (English) Zbl 0496.10034

In [Compos. Math. 45, 273–291 (1982; Zbl 0498.10029)] haben die Autoren gemeinsam mit V. Losert metrische Diskrepanzabschätzungen für Folgen \((A^{p(n)})\) gezeigt; \(A\) bezeichnet dabei eine reelle (oder komplexe) \((s\times s)\)-Matrix und \(p(n)\) eine streng monoton wachsende Folge natürlicher Zahlen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine solche Diskrepanzabschätzung verschärft und gezeigt: Für fast alle (im Sinn des \(s^2\)-dimensionalen Lebesguemaßes) reellen \((s\times s)\)-Matrizen \(A\) mit mindestens einem Eigenwert absolut größer als Eins existiert eine Konstante \(C(A)\), so daß die Diskrepanz \(D(N,A)\) von \((A^{p(n)})_{n=1}^\infty\) (aufgefaßt als Folge in \(\mathbb R^{s^2}\) komponentenweise) durch \[ D(N,A) \le C(A)N^{-1/2} (\log N)^{s^2 +1} \] abgeschätzt werden kann.
