The number of solutions of a special system of equations in a finite field. (English) Zbl 0147.04003

Es wird folgendes Gleichungssystem über \(\mathrm{GF}(q)\), dem Galoisfeld mit \(q\) Elementen, betrachtet: \(y_^{k_i}=a_i+b_ix^k\) \((i = 1, 2, \dots, n)\); dabei sind \(k, k_1,\dots k_n\) positive ganze Zahlen; die \(a_\nu\) und \(b_\nu\) sind Elemente \(\neq 0\) von \(\mathrm{GF}(q)\), für welche \(a_ib_j \neq a_jb_i\), falls \(i\neq j\). Mit Hilfe eines Satzes von A. Weil [Sur les courbes algébriques et les variétés qui s’en déduisent. Paris: Hermann (1948; Zbl 0036.16001)] wird gezeigt, daß für die Anzahl \(N\) der Lösungen des obigen Gleichungssystems in \(\mathrm{GF}(q)\) gilt
\[ N = q + O(q^{1/2})\quad (q\to\infty). \]
Es werden einige Anwendungen dieses Resultats auf Permutationspolynome gegeben, insbesondere wird bewiesen: Ist \(e > 1\) eine natürliche Zahl, so gibt es für genügend großes \(q\) mit \(q =1 \bmod e\) stets ein \(a\in\mathrm{GF}(q)\), so daß \(f(x)=x(x^{(q-1)/e}+a)\) Permutationspolynom von \(\mathrm{GF}(q)\) ist. {Für \(e = 2, 3\) war dies schon früher von L. Carlitz [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 68, 120–122 (1962; Zbl 0217.33003)] gezeigt worden.}
