McGowan, Jill; Searle, Catherine Some examples of spherical orbit spaces with cohomogeneity 2. (Spanish. English summary) Zbl 0986.57027 Divulg. Mat. 9, No. 1, 1-23 (2001). The authors give in the first half of the paper an elementary introduction to some basic concepts from the theory of Lie group actions on differentiable manifolds. In the second half of the paper they discuss in detail three examples of actions on spheres that have cohomogeneity two (meaning that the orbits of maximal dimension have codimension two). The diameters of the orbit spaces and the isotropy groups of these actions are listed in a table at the end of the paper.
