Search in the MathEduc Database
To enter a query, just type in a descriptive phrase or a few descriptive words and hit the 'enter' key (or click on the 'Go' button) for a list of relevant documents. Initially, documents are returned that contain all the words in your query. Enclose words in "double quotes" to search for the exact phrase. Refining or narrowing your search is as simple as adding more words to the search terms you have already entered. Your new query will return a smaller subset of the documents found for your original "too-broad" query.
Choosing Keywords
For best results, it's important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:
Search forms
The search in MathEduc can be excuted via the advanced search form, the quick search form (always available on the top containing the fields "anywhere", "author", "title", "source" and "year") and the command line search in the second search row. Without specification, the command-line will simply work as a Web-like search "anywhere". However, one can specify the fields and connect them with logical operators in the following way.
General search syntax
[field]:[search string]
Examples
Database fields
The searchable fields of the database MathEduc are listed below.
Capitalization
Searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "leonhard euler", "Leonhard Euler", and "LeOnHaRd EuLeR" will all return the same results.
Word Variations (Stemming)
To provide the most convenient access, the databse supports "wildcard" searches. In other words, MathEduc searches for exactly the words that you enter in the search box, except when you add a "*" to the end of a word. Searching for "euler*" will yield "euler", "eulerian", ... This works also in word phrases.
