Our observations have supported our idea that effective teaching enables the learner to become independent from the teacher. We also recognize the dependence the learner has on the teacher to enable her/him to learn. An effective teacher of mathematics may want to take a different position at different times of a lesson, or series of lessons. Teachers may then take different actions according to their position on the continuum at any given time. (Abstract)}, msc2010 = {D42xx}, identifier = {2000c.01714}, }
