Zusammenfassung (DIPF): In den letzten Jahren stößt man in der Unterrichts- und Bildungsforschung zur Domäne Mathematik vermehrt auf den Begriff der “kognitiven Aktivierung". Dabei erscheint dieses Konstrukt ähnlich schemenhaft zu bleiben wie vor Kurzem der inzwischen etablierte Begriff der “Kompetenz”, zu dem es inzwischen eine lebendige wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung gibt. Ziel dieses Beitrags ist es, aktuelle Konzepte kognitiver Aktivierung in der Bildungsforschung zu beleuchten und aus Perspektive der Mathematikdidaktik darauf hinzuweisen, welche bewährten fachdidaktischen Konzepte und Befunde bereits enge Bezüge zur kognitiven Aktivierung aufweisen. Dabei erweist es sich als nützlich, den Aktivierungsbegriff auf den Kompetenzbegriff zu beziehen. Damit wollen die Autoren eine konzeptuelle Brücke zwischen Bildungs- und Unterrichtsforschung sowie fachdidaktischer Forschung schlagen und zu einer eindeutigeren und systematischeren Verwendung des Aktivierungsbegriffs beitragen. Summary: In the past years, the term “cognitive activation" has been used more and more frequently in research on mathematics education and teaching. However, this construct appears to have the same fuzzy character as it was the case with the - meanwhile established - term "competence"; the latter has triggered a lively scientific discourse. This article sheds light on the current concepts of cognitive activation in educational research and it points out that many established concepts and findings from mathematics education are closely related to the construct of cognitive activation. In this context, it is useful to relate the concept of activation to the concept of competence. Thereby, we build a conceptual bridge from general research on education and teaching on the one hand to research on mathematics education on the other hand and we take a step towards a more consistent and systematic use of the term “cognitive activation".
