From the introduction: In his article entitled “Retrolife”, Yossi Elran described some initial configurations that will generate a specific pattern of live cells after an iteration of the rules of the Game of Life, specifically each of the five tetrominoes. This article led me to ask the question as to whether there are retrolife configurations that will generate each of the twelve pentominoes. A computer program was created to test this; the answer is affirmative and is demonstrated in Figures1 through 12.
