Summary: The epiSTEMe project forms part of a national initiative researching means of improving young people's participation and achievement in mathematics and science education. The project involves collaboration between researchers and teachers to devise an intervention, suitable for widespread dissemination, to enhance student engagement and learning in early secondary-school physical science and mathematics. Drawing on the now extensive research base examining US experience of Standards-based reform, and parallel research and development efforts in the UK and elsewhere, the project aims to translate promising pedagogical principles into an operational apparatus for viable professional practice.
