Comen., Math., No. 12, 31-46 (2012).} \itemab Summary: We deal with the phenomenon of entrance exams at universities in Slovakia. We compare results of the national testing of secondary school graduates with the results of a non-standardized test designed for those students who want to study various subjects connected with mathematics (financial mathematics, business mathematics, insurance mathematics) at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at the Comenius University in Bratislava. The focus of the paper is at the evaluation of the entrance test by analyzing students' output, in order to find out what types of tasks should be included in the entrance test if we want to select students who have the best predispositions for studying.
