<ab>This chapter looks at the development and use of a new mathematics curriculum framework for the teaching of adults, and how it has influenced and impacted on teaching practice. The Certificates in General Education for Adults (CGEA) are a nationally accredited competency based Australian curriculum, where the numeracy and mathematics learning outcomes are based on the purpose and use of mathematics in a variety of contexts. This same framework is now being used as an alternative mathematics curriculum for senior students in secondary schools. This numeracy and mathematics framework is based on an explicitly stated view of numeracy and mathematics. This chapter looks at some of the developments and issues behind the use of this curriculum, and how it has impacted on teachers and their teaching practice.</ab>
